“Dewey Hall has been promoting cheerfulness and intelligence since 1887,” declared Board Member Beth Carlson, at Dewey Hall’s Celestial Ball on Saturday, Feb. 10. On that night, the nonprofit that’s all about strengthening community also promoted a magical, moonstruck celebration on the final night of its Reaching for the Stars annual fundraising campaign. Guests were encouraged to dress in their best sequins and sparkles and they duly arrived in shimmery sartorial splendor. DJ BFG supplied the tune for dancing; Leah Guadagnoli of Fancy Feast Supper Club set out a bountiful spread of her vegetarian hors d’oeuvres; and Emily Schulmann of GettinIntuit offered tarot card readings. Constructed in 1886, the fieldstone, marble and shingle Dewey Memorial Hall was built with mission of connecting community members through social entertainment and cultural activities. With all of its current programming — including jazz jams and other live concerts, storytelling events, game nights, and the annual sourdough bread contest — Dewey Hall continues to serve as a community space that engages people of all ages and backgrounds. "By reaching for the stars we got to the moon!,” said Carlson. “Funds from this campaign will give us a good start for 2024.”
