Eisenhower Resurrected By Barrington Stage

Barrington Stage Company presents "Eisenhower: This Piece of Ground," Richard Hellesen's one-man play imagining President Dwight D. Eisenhower at his Gettysburg farm in 1962, reflecting on his life and legacy after The New York Times Magazine publishes its first-ever ranking of American presidents. Tony Award winner John Rubinstein ("Pippin," "Children of a Lesser God") stars September 16–21, followed by Broadway veteran David Sitler ("Frost/Nixon," "An Inspector Calls," and "The Things They Carried") September 23–26.

Adapted from Eisenhower's memoirs, speeches, and letters the play was created with the support of the Eisenhower Foundation and permission from the Eisenhower family. It sits Eisenhower down to ponder his own placement on that list, pulling threads from his life of military and civilian leadership through the Cold War, McCarthyism, and the early Civil Rights movement.

The play premiered at Theatre West in Los Angeles in fall 2022 before an Off-Broadway run at the Theatre at St. Clements in summer 2023, where it extended twice due to demand and returned again that October.

Performances run Wednesday through Saturday, with matinees on select Wednesdays and Saturdays; full showtimes are listed on the box office calendar.
