January 31-February 1 | Five Points Art Center, Torrington, CT | 10am-2 pm
Across two days—Saturday, January 31 and Sunday, February 1, 2026 — the art-and-making community at Five Points Art Center gathers for "From Trash to Treasure: Hand-Made Artist Books," a hands-on workshop with instructor Fruma Markowitz that turns “failures” into artistic opportunity. Participants are invited to bring photographic prints, experimentations, and other paper “castoffs” to upcycle into one-of-a-kind handmade books, using folding, cutting, pasting, and sewing to explore visual narrative and creative sequencing in a studio environment.
Running 10 am to 2 pm on both days, the workshop offers makers ages 16 and up an opportunity to re-imagine what counts as material worth keeping and to cultivate new techniques in book arts and visual storytelling. Registration fees vary for members and non-members; advance registration is recommended due to limited studio space.
