Vince Mulford's antiques showroom offered a hushed, candlelit prelude for guests at Historic Hudson's lively Post-House-Tour cocktail reception on Saturday, October 2, as they made their way to a staircase in back leading to the magical "Tin Ballroom." (RI's advice: Do not attempt this witty take on Ballroom Baroque at home, unless your eye is as unerring as V.M.'s, which, of course, no one's is.) There, between delicious bites of locally-sourced hors d'oeuvres by chef Jeff Loshinsky (Savory Pumpkin Wonton Cups with Pepita Salsa; Crostini with Sprout Creek Farm's "Camus" Blue Cheese, Walnut Dust and Roasted Apples; Grilled Smoked Pheasant Kielbasa with Quince and Calamansi Dipping Sauce; Chick Pea, Asian Chive and Black Pepper Fritters with Rustic Harissa Dip & Pomegranate Quark Dip—who knew that quarks were edible?), the talk was of the amazing houses that had been on the tour that day, and of the high style and good living that lays behind those innocent historic facades.
