One of the most exciting features of the new Rural Intelligence website is our revamped events calendar. This tool is designed to help readers quickly zero in on exactly what they want to do across the region. Whether you’re looking for a gallery opening, a pop-up dinner event, a winter festival, or  live jazz set, the new calendar makes it easier than ever to explore all that’s happening.

Here’s a simple walkthrough of how to use the calendar and how event organizers can add their own listings.

When you first open the calendar, you’ll see a streamlined dashboard. At the top, the search bar allows you to enter keywords instantly pulling up matching events.

If you prefer to browse, the calendar’s main navigation tabs let you toggle between multiple layouts. You can change the way the listings are laid out to show more or less information, and you can even pull up a map of the RI region populated with pins of the event types you’re looking for.

Fine-Tune Your Results with Filters

Categories

Events are tagged by type—music, food & drink, outdoor activities, theater, community events, workshops, family-friendly, and more. Checking one or multiple boxes lets you zero in on what you love.

Location

If you want to stay close to home—or plan a weekend adventure—you can filter by town or county. It’s a great option for readers who want to get more plugged into a specific spot.

Date Range

Looking for something to do tonight? Or planning ahead for the holidays? Use the date selector to limit results to exactly the span you're interested in.

Cost

Free events are now easy to find, and you can filter by ticket price when budgeting out your weekend.

Using a few filters together is the fastest way to move from “I wonder what’s happening?” to “Let’s go!”

Are You an Event Organizer? Here’s How to Submit

We want the calendar to reflect the full richness of life in our four-county region—and that means relying on local artists, venues, nonprofits, farms, libraries, restaurants, galleries, festivals, and community organizers to share their events.

If you’re planning an event, submitting your listing is simple:

  1. Click “Submit Event.”At the top right of the calendar, you’ll find a button labeled Add Event or Submit Event (depending on your device). This opens a short form.
  2. Enter your details. You’ll be prompted to include the event title, description, venue, date and time, category, organizer information, and any ticket links or images. The more complete your submission, the better it will look to readers.
  3. Review promotion options. The calendar offers optional paid promotional upgrades—perfect for organizers who want to boost visibility. For a small cost, you can elevate your listing to a featured position, highlight it within category pages, or even have it placed in a dedicated widget that reaches more readers across the site. These options are entirely optional but can go a long way toward helping your event stand out.

Your Guide to a More Connected Region

Whether you’re looking to fill your weekend or share your next event, the new calendar is built to make those connections easier. It’s intuitive, fast, and designed with our region’s diverse arts, culture, and community landscape in mind.

Explore it today, check back often, and if you’re hosting something special, don’t forget to add your event.
