April 17 | Tivoli, NY | 7pm | Free with RSVP

Kaatsbaan Cultural Park presents a new work preview of "Unchainable Voices" by La Verdad on April 17. The performance runs about 30 minutes and is followed by a Q&A with the choreographer and a reception in the Lobby Gallery.

The piece is a multidisciplinary work composed of dance and movement that centers on the history of Black women, their cultural contributions, resilience, and the ways their voices have shaped societies while being marginalized. It's a work in progress, and this preview offers an early look before the piece reaches fuller production.

La Verdad is the company of Chicago-based choreographer Vernard J. Gilmore, whose background runs through some of the most prominent institutions in American dance. He trained at The Ailey School on scholarship and was a member of Ailey II, performed at the White House under both the Obama and Biden administrations, and has presented work at the Fire Island Dance Festival, the Jazz Foundation of America Gala, and with Nimbus Dance Works. He worked as a choreographer on the live action Disney film remake of "The Little Mermaid" and most recently with the Joffrey Concert Group.
