Mother-Daughter Designers Launch Interiors Pop-Up in Stockbridge

Pryor & Peacock, a family-run furniture design business headquartered in the Berkshires, opens its first-ever pop-up shop at 6 Elm Street in Stockbridge on August 13, running through August 25. Hours are 10am to 5pm Sunday through Wednesday and 10am to 7pm Thursday through Saturday.

The company reupholsters vintage and antique furniture with custom fabric printed from prints and illustrations dating from the late 1600s through the mid-20th century—turning long-forgotten images into statement pieces that read as maximalist-chic.

Co-founder Rosalind Wright, who runs the business with her daughters Elizabeth and Luca Shapiro, traces their genetic style impulse to a family history in textiles that goes back generations: her paternal grandfather ran a textile mill in Algeria before relocating to Paris after World War II, where the business he started still operates today. Wright has said the more immediate motivation was simpler exasperation—furniture brochures had all started to look the same, everything upholstered in the same oatmeal and gray, a flattening she's half-jokingly attributed to the anxious neutrality of the Zoom-meeting years.

There's also an environmental argument built into the business model. The pieces Pryor & Peacock is repurpousing works with were made between the 19th and mid-20th centuries. The company doesn't use fur, down, or animal skin in any of its work, and its reliance on existing antique frames rather than new material is presented as part of the same ethic.

This is the company's first time showing its inventory in person rather than online.
