Sherman Artists Association Raffles Farm-Themed Art at Happy Acres Farm Day
Sixteen artists' photographs, paintings, glass, and a quilted tote are up for raffle at $5 a ticket, with proceeds supporting the association.

The Sherman Artists Association returns to the sixth annual Farm Day at Happy Acres Farm with a raffle of farm-themed artwork, plus an art project for kids and adults. The pieces depict Happy Acres itself, farm life, and countryside scenes. Raffle tickets are $5 each or 10 for $40, and the proceeds support the association. To enter, buy tickets and drop them in the bin next to the piece you want.
Photographers in the raffle are John Clery, Linda Hubbard, Susan Locke, Keven Nelson, Cynthia O'Connor, and Eric Schmidt. Painters are Randi Carboni, Karen Golden, Ted Hollander, Christian Maschke, Susan Rogers, Lynn Slonaker, and Muriel Stockdale. Kathy Peck contributes fused glass, Steven Shultz stained glass, and Mae Mainone a quilted tote bag. The full slate can be viewed on the association's website or Facebook page before the day.
The association formed in 2021 and now counts more than 100 artists from Connecticut and New York. Its mission is to give local artists a forum and to enrich Sherman's cultural life through the visual arts. It has taken part in Farm Day since at least the fourth edition in 2024, and it has other events coming up: its annual ARTFEST in June and a fundraiser for a permanent Sherman Art Center.
Farm Day itself is the farm's annual open house. Past editions have included hay rides, pumpkin picking, live music, farm animals to meet, local vendors, and food from The Old Oak Tavern. This year's announcement lists music, food, pumpkins for sale, animal exhibits, hay rides, and farm equipment.
Happy Acres sits at the northwest corner of Taber Road and Route 39 North. The Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation calls it one of the last remaining large farmsteads in Sherman. It has a center-hall colonial farmhouse, a barnyard with barns on three sides, and four silos, and it has been on the State Register of Historic Places since 2014.
