Fiona Breslin reports from Pittsfield. Women donned cat eye glasses, men greased back their hair, and the young ladies roller skated proudly around the gym at the Gladys Allen Brigham Community Center on Friday, January, 18, for the Go Girl Sock Hop dance. The Happy Days-themed evening benefited Girls Inc. of the Berkshires, the core program of the Center. The dance included live jukebox, chart-topping hits performed by the Jeff King Band, which, of course, drew couples to the dance floor. Soda pop and other delicious bites were provided by Mazzeo’s Ristorante. A costume contest, auction, and enthusiastic chaperones completed the nostalgic picture. Since 1945 Girls Inc. has been a nationally recognized organization that encourages girls to be strong, smart, and bold. A Friday night gymnasium dance was a classic way to honor the great American nonprofit.
