For those who have trouble keeping up with all that is happening on this side of the river, it comes as great news that Terenchin Gallery in Catskill, where Hudson artists Frank Faulkner, Jim Holl and Laetitia Hussain have had solo shows, has moved to Hudson. The current show there, which officially opens this Saturday, features over 300 period pieces—mostly mid-century Modernist and 19th-century works—presented salon style, with all periods and price ranges hung side-by-side. Patrick Terenchin characterizes this approach as "a true artistic democracy. The collection represents many points-of-view and is ever-changing week to week." Terenchin appears to make no distinction between the fine and the applied arts, between art that is sanctioned and that which has been ignored or decried. His own discerning eye and refined sensibility are the only filters in place, and he puts things together in revelatory ways. Says Faulkner, “It’s a different kind of gallery experience. There's nothing precious about it. Patrick treats objects as if they were art and works of art as if they were objects.
