The Grace Note, the Stissing Center's new intimate lounge venue, presents a staged reading of "The Maker and The Muse," an original musical that imagines a young writer’s search for authenticity through a surreal encounter with the artistic energy of 1960s New York.
The two-hour reading follows a disillusioned narrator who slips out of her present and into a vivid, musical re-creation of the moment when Patti Smith first met photographer Robert Mapplethorpe—a meeting that catalyzed her own artistic awakening.
Presented as part of Stissing Center’s 2026 season of experimental and performance work, "The Maker and The Muse" occupies a liminal space between concert and play, echoing the Center’s broader commitment to hybrid forms of art that draw from music, theater, and storytelling.
