Like so many of our residents, Bowie Zunino came into our region as a weekend and summer dweller (in Kent) but never anticipated moving here full time. Things all changed when she was in graduate school and her father purchased the old grain elevator in the hamlet of Wassaic. Bowie quickly fell in love with the area. Fast forward to 2008, when she started the Wassaic Project Summer Festival. The little hamlet has never been the same. I feel so lucky to live in such an incredible hamlet surrounded by great towns and beautiful nature. When someone comes to visit for the first time, I always give them a walking tour of Wassaic which starts off with a trip up the Maxon Mills Grain Elevator. Old Forge Organics on the Luther Barn property is next, to pet the pygmy goats and emu, and then we cross Route 22 to look at the old Charcoal Kilns on Deep Hollow Road before finishing up the tour with a beer at The Lantern. I have a two-year-old daughter and a 100-pound Alaskan Malamute, so when I'm not working I'm usually out with the two of them. We love to hike in Macedonia State Park and Pond Mountain in Kent, and we are obsessed with the Trevor Zoo at the Millbrook School. My husband Jeff and I love food and usually can be found eating at Back in the Kitchen or upstairs buying pasta at Andrea's Pasta Di Casa. They are both amazing local spots with great food and run by fantastic people. And whenever we get a chance to go on a date we go to Number 9 in Millerton. I have a real sweet tooth, so we always order the soufflé -- it changes all the time and is incredible!
