The Wassaic Project Summer Exhibition 2013
Wassaic Project 2013

Fiona Breslin reports from Wassaic. It's a fact that every year Wassaic Project parties bring in one of the youngest and most merry crowds of any party across the region. This was the case on Saturday, June 15, as the project kicked off summer with more than 200 guests for its most important fundraiser of the year. A summer exhibition, Homeward Found, and art preview party held at the Maxon Mills, raised funding for education programs and keeping the project's summer festival free to the public. The night was jam-packed with guests including senator Terry Gipson who spoke in support of the Wassaic Project, and Rick Lowe (pictured above), founder of Project Row Houses, in Houston’s northern Third Ward. Lowe spoke about creative placemaking, a new catchphrase that describes when public, private, non-profit, and community sectors partner to shape the qualities of a neighborhood around art and cultural activities. The night also included delicious food provided by ten local restaurants, handmade cocktails infused with lavender and mint, live music and, of course, art. Homeward Found will be open Saturdays and Sundays through Labor Day.
