February 28 | White Memorial Conservation Center, Litchfield, CT | 2-3pm
The White Memorial Conservation Center hosts a focused look at some of the more intriguing and frequently misunderstood reptiles of North America when Brian Kleinman, owner of the Riverside Reptiles Education Center in Enfield, presents "Venomous Snakes" on Saturday, February 28 from 2-3pm. The program combines a dynamic slide presentation with opportunities to meet live animals, offering a grounded view of snake biology and natural history.
Kleinman, a lifelong Connecticut resident with a BA in biology and decades of field experience studying reptiles, amphibians, and other wildlife, begins with an illustrated talk about snake anatomy, venom composition, methods of venom delivery, and the effects venom can have on humans. He also covers how these species are adapted to their environments and the roles they play in ecosystems. After the presentation, participants will have the chance to see several live snake species up close — nonvenomous animals can be touched, while venomous animals will be present for viewing only.
Designed for ages 8 and up, the session offers an accessible entry point into herpetology that challenges common misconceptions about snakes while highlighting both their biological complexity and conservation importance. Pre-registration is required, and there is a fee for both members and non-members.
