It was a day and evening of openings and high energy at the MASS MoCA campus in North Adams, Mass. on Saturday, June 23. In the afternoon, the Kidspace gallery held an opening reception for “Come to Your Senses,” a program of Sally Taylor’s Consenses project. (Read: “10 Questions For Sally Taylor.”) Later, ROAM: A Xtina Parks Gallery, located in Building 1 of the campus, introduced guests to this new space that illuminates the world of wildlife photography and conservation efforts for the wild animals of Africa. The gallery was founded by wildlife photographer, filmmaker, conservationist and expedition leader Chrystina (Xtina) Geagan Parks, who lives in Williamstown and Botswana. Next, it was time for the highly anticipated concert, “An Evening With Sally Taylor & Friends: Come to Your Senses on Stage,” where the singer-songwriter’s Consenses practice was demonstrated by singers, dancers and projected artwork, followed by a performance of heartfelt songs by all on stage. Finally, a group of supporters, artists and musicians convened in a candle-lit corner of Building Six for an elegant dinner prepared by the Starr Catering Group. “It seemed as if one out of 10 people on the campus today were artists,” said the museum’s director, Joe Thompson. “And that’s the way it should be.”
