More than 300 members of the Berkshire County community — from lawyers, bankers and builders to artists, educators and entrepreneurs — gathered at Jiminy Peak on Thursday evening, Sept. 26 to “Celebrate the Berkshires.” 1Berkshire, the region’s economic development organization, had invited them there to once again announce the winners of the annual Trendsetter Awards. The event recognizes individuals and organizations who strengthen the local economy and help the Berkshires grow. The 2019 Berkshire Trendsetter winners were: Innovative Marketing Campaign — Lee Bank; Entrepreneur/Visionary of the Year — Margaret Keller from CATA; Growing/Advancing the Berkshire Economy — MASS MoCA; Under 40 Change Maker — Jess Sweeney of Common Folk, ROOTS Teen Center and the O+ Festival; Nonprofit Impact — Roots Rising; Creative Economy Standout — Steve Sears of The Stationery Factory; and Newcomer of the Year — Theory Wellness. This year’s award for Putting the Berkshires on the Map was presented to the North Adams hotel TOURISTS. Since opening in August of last year, TOURISTS has welcomed nearly 10,000 guests to the Berkshires, many on their first visit to the region. Read more about TOURISTS here.
