Columbia County Tourism invites the public to an Evening in Honor of Gen. Henry Knox & the Noble Train of Artilleryon Sunday, January 4, at The James Vanderpoel House, commemorating the 250th anniversary of Colonel Henry Knox’s remarkable Revolutionary War expedition. In January 1776 Knox led an extraordinary over-land journey moving captured artillery from upstate New York toward the fight around Boston, a feat that helped shift the early strategic balance of the war.
The program, set in the historic James Vanderpoel House in Kinderhook, brings together local historians for a conversation about the Noble Train of Artillery’s passage through the region. Attendees can expect readings from the forthcoming Columbia County 250 book, Revolutionary-era trivia, and light refreshments in an atmosphere of remembrance and community engagement.
This event is part of a broader series of regional commemorations marking 250 years since Knox’s winter trek—an over-300-mile movement of more than 50 guns and munitions that crossed rivers, forests, and icy terrain in support of the Continental Army.
