Established in 2020 by sculptor Jonathan Prince and curator Stephanie Manasseh, Berkshire House in Southfield, Massachusetts was created to be a creative haven for cultivating connections through art, technology, music and gastronomy. On Friday, Oct. 27, it did all that through the world premiere of “Immanence Embodied: Revealing the Soul of the Matter.” Invited guests took in not just Prince’s works but Dutch composer Joep Beving’s compositions inspired by Prince’s Flow State Series of sculptures. During the pandemic, Prince and Manasseh had been moved by Beving’s music. Guided by recordings of Beving's piano playing, Prince was able to enter into a mental space known as “flow state." The couple invited him to come to Berkshire House and collaborate with Prince. Now Beving reciprocated with piano compositions inspired by Prince’s sculptures. Prior to the program, guests gathered in the sculpture garden for drinks and bites, then enjoyed a post-performance reception with “gastronomic programming” provided by chefs Oliver Antunes and Doron Neumark.
