Some of the guests who attend the Berkshire Immigrant Center’s annual One World Celebration are immigrants, some are supporters, and some are both. Held Sunday evening, June 4 outside Shakespeare & Company’s Tina Packer Playhouse, this year’s gala was hosted by James Warwick. The actor/director was born in England and became a United States citizen in 2013. He introduced the night’s first performers, Berkshire County-based musical duo Natalia Bernal and Jason Ennis. Bernal, a native of Chile, is not only a BIC supporter, but she and her mother are also clients. A performance by Wanda Houston and her band followed, and the evening wrapped up with a live paddle raise led by State Rep. William "Smitty" Pignatelli. The well-attended community gathering was a more than fitting start to National Immigrant Heritage Month.
The Berkshire Immigrant Center, located in Pittsfield, offers affordable legal services, local resources, and education to the county’s more than 10,000 immigrants.
