March 19 | Spotty Dog Books & Ale, Hudson, NY | 6 pm

Artist, musician, and quiet legend Brian Dewan brings his idiosyncratic blend of words and sounds to Spotty Dog Books & Ale on Thursday, March 19 at 6pm to celebrate the release of "Curious Sealife," the debut album from the newly launched Hudson Valley poetry label Sandy Rock Poetry. The evening features Dewan performing selections from the project alongside recorded words by poet and radio producer Chris Funkhouser.

Part spoken-word performance and part sonic experiment, "Curious Sealife" imagines a chorus of observant undersea creatures surfacing long enough to reflect on the oddities of human life. “I enjoy distilled, bite-sized experiences produced by small pieces of writing," Dewan said. "Undersea creatures move up, down and sideways, and sometimes encounter the strange creations of landlubbers. Gawk at artifacts, then resume undersea life.”

The release also marks the launch of Sandy Rock Poetry, a new Hudson Valley–based record label founded in 2025 by Funkhouser to circulate poetry through audio formats and small-run physical releases. A limited-edition flexidisc featuring selections from Curious Sealife is available through Bandcamp and by mail order.
