CORRECTION: Leon Botstein Resignation Story Was False

I owe our readers a correction and an apology.

Earlier today, I reported that Bard college president Leon Botstein was planning to resign. That information was false. We were sent an email from a non-Bard address pretending to be a Bard official we have communicated with many times in the past, with what appeared to be credible documents.

Bard officials have since confirmed that President Botstein is not planning to resign and that the materials circulated were part of a hoax. I regret the error and the confusion it caused. We have removed the original item and are reviewing our verification processes to ensure greater scrutiny of similar claims going forward. Accuracy matters, and when we get something wrong, we believe it’s essential to say so plainly.
