You probably don't too know much about the Isabella Freedman Jewish Retreat Center in Falls Village, which might be described as a kosher Kripalu or an Omega for progressive Orthodox, Conservative, Reform and Renewal Jews. But you'll probably be hearing more about Isabella Freedman--whose pickles and sauerkraut are sold at some of our region's best food stores--now that a high-powered executive director has been hired to run the 400 acre camp, which started out as summer vacation spot for garment workers and is now a year-round multi-denominational retreat center. Ellen Carton, who has served as executive director of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) and the National Abortion Rights Action League/New York (NARAL), takes over as executive director on March 23.
