What are the chances that you would come across three residents of our region within a six-page stretch of a single issue of The New Yorker? In the January 26 issue, there is commodities trader Jim Sinclair of Sharon, CT, quoted in Ben McGrath's story on doomsayers, "The Dystopians," in which he also quotes Gerald Celente, a trend forecaster from Rhinebeck. Then the following article—"Man and Beast," by Calvin Tomkins—is about the painter Walton Ford, who works in Great Barrington and lives in Southfield.  Now, in case you had any doubts, you know why we call it the Rural Intelligence Region.
