"Hundreds of Beavers" at the Stissing Center

The Stissing Center’s film series continues with a screening of "Hundreds of Beavers" on Saturday, March 28 at 7:30pm. The independently produced film has quietly developed a reputation as a modern cult favorite, described by Time Out as “that rare thing…a genuine cult classic.” 

Set in a surreal, snowbound 19th-century landscape, the film follows a hapless applejack salesman who must reinvent himself as a fur trapper, facing off against a barrage of increasingly absurd challenges—including, as the title suggests, an overwhelming population of beavers. The black and white farce is filled with physical comedy and visual mania, drawing on silent-era sensibilities while building a contemporary, cartoon-like logic through live-action performance.

The screening is part of a broader film series at the Stissing Center that complements its music and performance programming, bringing independent and offbeat cinema into the same intimate, community-oriented setting that defines the venue’s live events.
