For more than 38 years, J. Seitz & Co. in New Preston, Connecticut has been a must-stop for sophisticated shoppers looking for one-of-a-kind pieces to travel with them through life. From furniture and home decor to apparel, jewelry, apothecary products, and everything in between, the distinctive, carefully curated selection of goods at the family-owned emporium have earned accolades from discerning shoppers and design-minded publications alike.
It all started in 1985, when Joanna Seitz, a former magazine editor and fashion PR expert along with her husband, architectural photographer Bill Seitz, opened their lifestyle shop in a vintage building on East Shore Road in the quaint village of New Preston. The success of J. Seitz, along with the charm of the vintage building and the magical waterfall behind the store, began to attract other high-end retailers to the village, and J. Seitz is credited with making New Preston the retail destination that it is today.

Now, together with their daughter Amanda, who studied fashion merchandising at F.I.T. in New York City before returning home to help run the store, the Seitz family continues to offer shoppers their ever-evolving vision of an authentic, well-lived country life.
J. Seitz & Co.'s 5,000-square-feet of sustainably sourced and one-of-a-kind goods is spread over the building’s two floors. The top floor is home to a blend of refined, quality-made womens and mens apparel. Women will find thoughtfully curated items from Frank and Eileen, Hartford Paris, James Perse, Jumper 1234 Mongolian Cashmere, Bare Knitwear Alpaca, Matta NY, Campomaggi Bags and Ottotredici Scarves from Italy, and Travaux en Cours hats and bags from Paris. For men, there are also a variety of high-quality brands to choose from, including Hartford Paris, Relwen, Mason's Italy, Filson, Pendleton, Rototo Japanese Socks, and Blundstone and Hunter boots.
For little ones, there is a selection of organic and sustainable clothing, books, and non-toxic artisan-made toys. Shoppers will also find a selection of jewelry from independent artisans featuring ethically-sourced diamonds and recycled materials as well as artful vintage pieces. The store's dedication to eco-friendly principles can also be seen in a diverse range of organic, sustainable, and wildcrafted bath and body products from brands includng Osea Face and Body, Luxe Beauty, Herbivore Botanicals, Los Poblanos Lavender, Anima Mundi healing products, Rahua Hair, Now Ayurveda, Juniper Ridge, and more.

The lower floor of the store is dedicated to furniture and home goods. Their famous Linen Room features Libeco Belgian bedding and pillows, Coyuchi organic bedding and sheets, Lissoy bedding from France, and a large selection of Indian block printed pillows and throws.
Find inspiration for a redecoration or renovation in the photoshoot-ready vignettes that feature its main furniture line—California-based Cisco Brothers—as well as luxe upholstery by Lee Industries that can be delivered on special order in 6-8 weeks. There is also an eclectic selection of wall art, rugs, throw pillows, mirrors, and vintage pieces the family has discovered throughout their travels.
Their furniture offerings emphasize Belgian linen and other natural and performance fabrics that wear beautifully and offer easy care, as well as pieces made from Forest Stewardship Council-certified or reclaimed wood when possible. All of the pieces you’ll find in-store are available for purchase for immediate delivery, or you can special order any fabric from J. Seitz’s large selection.

If you want to scoop up everything you see (and who could blame you), J. Seitz will even curate your home, too. The store offers professional design services for any size of project, and its interior design projects have been featured in national publications such as House Beautiful, Country Living, Country Home, New England Home, the New York Times, and the Boston Globe, and they just completed an eight-room makeover for a local Hollywood celebrity.
If you’re in the New Preston area soon, be sure to stop in—their classic Summer Sale is currently in full swing, with all seasonal clothing, outdoor furniture, and selected home furnishings available at special prices.
