Jacob’s Pillow Honors The Past, Funds The Future
On Saturday, June 16, Jacob’s Pillow Dance kicked off its 2018 season with a gala fundraiser.

With each cultural organization’s opening night, we get one step closer to feeling like it’s truly summertime in our region. The warm weather on Saturday, June 16 helped it feel that way, too, as Jacob’s Pillow Dance kicked off its 2018 season with a gala fundraiser. This year’s event featured a tribute to 2017 Kennedy Center Honoree, and the evening’s honorary chair, Carmen de Lavallade. Dance Theatre of Harlem’s Amanda Smith performed de Lavallade’s “signature solo,” Come Sunday, in her honor. Other performances included a preview of Ephrat Asherie Dance’s Odeon, prior to its world premiere at the Festival next week, and a world premiere choreographed by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa and featuring the Ballet Program dancers of The School at Jacob’s Pillow. The 12th annual Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award was presented to choreographer Faye Driscoll and, during cocktail hour, dancers from the Scotland-based Janis Claxton Dance made their U.S. debut with pop-up performances throughout the grounds. A live auction encouraged guests to “Fund the Future” by supporting the Pillow’s vision to become a year-round mecca for dance creation and community involvement by the year 2022. Dinner was catered by The Old Inn on the Green, which will be taking up residence at the Pillow this summer, and an after-party was soundtracked by live music from Paul Loren and his One-Night Only Band.
