You don't have to be an art aficionado to participate in the treasure hunt this weekend in Millerton, which is designed to encourage you to take a serious look at the paintings, photographs and sculpture that more than sixty artists will be exhibiting at nearly three dozen local businesses. "You have to hunt for clues and match descriptions with various locations," says Jan Gilmor of Gilmor Glass, who heads the Millerton Business Group, which is organizing the second Fall for Art happening. "You can pick up and drop off the forms at any of the participating businesses from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday," she says. There will be three prize packages filled with goods from local businesses such as Shandell's, Harney Tea, and Little Gates & Co. Wine Merchants.
On Saturday night from 5 - 8 p.m., most of the participating businesses will serve hors d'oeuvre and beverages, transforming the town into a giant cocktail party, which was what it felt like at Spring for Art last May. Since then, two new businesses have opened in town—the Oakhurst Diner and Lady Audrey's Gallery—and they will both be showing art. "And the 14th Colony Artists gallery in the old David Gavin Salon is going strong and there will be lots to see there," says Gilmor. Although her husband's hand-blown glass is certainly art, the Gilmors will also be showing paintings by Pilar Proffitt, an architect who lives in nearby Lakeville.
