The Olana Summer Party on Saturday, July 20 was the hottest of the year, with the heat index outside climbing above 105 degrees, even high up in Hudson, New York. The official theme of the event was the 200th anniversary of the tale of Rip Van Winkle but the unofficial theme was communal perspiration and the importance of hydration. Still, there were a number of great reasons to celebrate. This was, according to Olana Partnership president Sean Sawyer, the most successful gala ever for Olana. Another point of pride for the organization was the recent completion of the Hudson River Skywalk, connecting Olana with the Thomas Cole House across the Rip Van Winkle Bridge (over which the party-goers gazed, through the haze). Also, introduced for the first time to the group of Olana diehards was the new NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Director for Olana, Amy Hausmann.
