Olana State Historic Site, Hudson, NY

Olana State Historic Site welcomes winter solstice with a free, family-friendly celebration on December 20, offering an afternoon of seasonal activities across the historic landscape.

Inspired by Frederic Edwin Church’s fascination with the Hudson Valley’s winter light and snow-covered terrain, the event invites visitors to explore Olana’s historic interiors, take part in hands-on artmaking, and learn about the science of snow through workshops and walks led by educator “Nature Sarah.”

Highlights include a bonfire, seasonal storytelling for families, a winter choir performance by Catskill High School musicians at 2pm, and the return of Olana favorite, Hank the miniature donkey.
