Before audiences experience Umberto Giordano’s opera Andrea Chénier (streamed live in HD at the Clark on Dec. 13 at 1pm), the Clark invites visitors to step into the world of the French Reign of Terror with a special one-day pop-up exhibition. Centered on artworks depicting execution, decapitation, and what motivated the era's aesthetic, the display offers a macabre but compelling glimpse into the anxieties that shaped the opera’s dramatic setting.
Featuring prints such as François Chifflart’s Perseus with Medusa’s Severed Head (1865), the exhibition highlights how artists have long grappled with themes of violence, mythology, and political upheaval. Drop into the Manton Study Center at 11am; no tickets or advance registration required.
