Herman Melville’s Arrowhead, Pittsfield
The Berkshire County Historical Society hosts Pulitzer Prize–winning biographer Debby Applegate for a special afternoon at Arrowhead, the historic home where Herman Melville wrote Moby-Dick. The program begins inside Melville’s study, with Applegate reading selections from her work in the room where the book about the iconic white whale was conceived.
After the reading, guests are invited to enjoy tea, hot toddies, and seasonal sweets while meeting the author and supporting BCHS’s preservation, restoration, and educational efforts. Applegate is the author of The Most Famous Man in America, which won the Pulitzer Prize in 2007, and Madam: The Biography of Polly Adler, a New York Times Editors’ Choice that explores the life of one of the Jazz Age’s most intriguing figures.
Tickets are $75 for the in-person event and $35 for an online presentation. Reservations can be made at berkshirehistory.org by selecting the events tab. For more information, contact melville@berkshirehistory.org.
