A celebration for The Mount’s National Committee, members and guests on Sunday, Oct. 21 also served as a book launch for the new biography Edith Wharton in France by French scholar Claudine Lesage. The Mount’s Executive Director Susan Wissler worked tirelessly to ensure the book was completed and published after Lesage’s death. As Wissler explained at the event, the book includes “juicy new material” for Wharton fans, including Wharton’s 35-year correspondence with her good friend Léon Bélugou, as well as letters presented as evidence in Wharton’s divorce proceedings, an autobiographical essay written by Wharton’s lover Morton Fullerton, and never-before-published photographs.
