Although it’s difficult to imagine now, someday soon it will be spring and New England will be abloom, perhaps no place more so than The Mount, writer Edith Wharton’s Lenox home. The historic estate’s former owner was feted there on Friday, Jan. 24 on what would have been her 158th birthday. Close to 100 guests toasted to her and, although holiday decorations still twinkled in the mansion, heard from Executive Director Susan Wissler about The Mount’s upcoming summer events. This year the site will celebrate the 100th anniversary of The Age of Innocence, the novel that garnered Wharton the title of “first woman to win a Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.” Centennial events will include an Age of Innocence Fête featuring excerpts from a new musical adaptation by Peter Yarin and Craig Fols; an outdoor screening of Martin Scorsese’s film adaptation of the book; and more events to be announced.
