Following sold-out runs in New York, Los Angeles, New Orleans, London, and Amsterdam—and ahead of a full run at the Edinburgh Fringe this summer—Donna Oblongata brings "The Van Gogh Shogh" to The Foundry in West Stockbridge for its Berkshire premiere on July 10.
The format is hard to describe: one part sip-and-paint, one part karaoke night, one part Sotheby's auction, with six audience members recruited to paint "Starry Night" under the tutelage of Van Gogh himself. The show uses that absurd premise as a lens for asking serious questions about art, success, reproduction, and what it means to make things for a living. Talkin' Broadway called it "engaging, lovable and extremely funny…inspired lunacy" and Adventures in Theatreland called it "side-splittingly funny."
Oblongata is a Philadelphia-based performer, writer, and social practice artist with more than 20 years of work in theaters, galleries, basements, squats, and community spaces around the world. She is a recipient of the 2025 Leeway Transformation Award and the 2024 Foundation for Contemporary Arts Creative Research Award, with residencies at MacDowell, the Studios of Key West, and the Ellis-Beauregard Foundation. Her immersive installation "Privy Privy" was named one of the best immersive experiences at SXSW 2025 and one of Miami Art Week's most memorable exhibits. In 2024, her protest art in support of Gaza was acquired by the Jewish Museum in Washington D.C.
Directed by Francesca Montanile-Lyons, the runtime is 75 minutes and is recommended for ages 12 and up. Dinner before the show at Amici Berkshires comes with 10% off with your ticket.
