Contemporary performance center PS21 is well known for its adventurous programming. And now the facility is upping its game with the launch of GroundTone, a new experimental music festival that will run July 18-21.
Part of Upstate Art Weekend, GroundTone will present a host of intriguing concerts in immersive, nontraditional settings around the site’s 100-plus-acre grounds. The weekend-long celebration of exploratory sounds is open to all ages and features bold, rising voices from across today’s cutting-edge musical landscape.
The fest starts on July 18 with performances by Lithuanian interdisciplinary artist Lina Lapelte (6pm) and saxophonist Josh Johnson (8pm) and continues July 19 with concerts by Miranda Cuckson (4:30pm) and large ensemble Exo-Tech (8pm). July 20 brings appearances from cellist Julia Kent (4:30pm), pianist Matthew Aucoin and friends (8pm), and July 21 wraps things up the trio of harpist Lavinia Meijer, cellist Clarice Jensen, and double bassist Caimin Gilmore (8pm). There will be free workshops, and food and drink will be available all weekend.
GroundTone will take place July 18-21 at PS21 in Chatham. See website for ticket pricing and ticket purchases, as well as other information.
