January 21–February 22 | Hessel Museum Entry Gallery, Annandale on Hudson | Wednesday–Sunday, 11am–5pm
At the Hessel Museum of Art at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, a powerful curatorial presentation drawn from the Marieluise Hessel Collection brings “We Are in Hell When We Hurt Each Other” into focus from January 21 through February 22. Curated by Lauren Cornell, this exhibition centers on an immersive work by artist Jacolby Satterwhite that blends multi-channel video, animated worlds, and found imagery into a nuanced cultural reflection rooted in the social and political currents of recent years.
Originally created in 2020, Satterwhite’s work juxtaposes protest footage with dystopian virtual environments populated by figures navigating ritual, memory, and resistance. Drawn from the artist’s own family history and collaborations, the installation probes the entanglements of identity, community, and survival.
On view in the Hessel Museum Entry Gallery, the exhibition invites visitors to engage with a compelling intersection of contemporary art and lived experience. General museum hours run Wednesday through Sunday, 11am to 5pm (free and open to the public).
