Saturday, August 29, 3pm | Tivoli, NY | $25 general, $15 students
Ballez performs "Travesty Doll Play (after Coppelia)" at Kaatsbaan Cultural Park's Black Box Theater on August 29, a 45-minute reimagining of the 1870 story ballet with a live original score by Lavinia Eloise Bruce and Scott Killian. The choreography focuses on the relationship between the Doll-maker and his Doll creations.
Ballez was founded in 2011 by choreographer and educator Katy Pyle, and has built a distinct place in contemporary ballet by centering the experiences of trans, non-binary, and genderqueer dancers in both practice and creation. The company has produced four original full-length story-ballets: "The Firebird, a Ballez" (2013, Danspace Project), "Sleeping Beauty & the Beast" (2016, La MaMa), "Giselle of Loneliness" (2021, The Joyce Theater), and this "Travesty Doll Play" (2024, Chelsea Factory).
