Elixir, a tiny café tucked in next to the Triplex Cinema, is a museum of Mason jars and glass bottles, all filled with wildflowers, herbs and liquids at varying stages of “tincturing" and fermentation. Owner/chef/herbalist Nancy Lee keeps the meat-free menu simple and the flavors complex: delicious teas, creamy and authentic hummus with vegetables, potato leek soup, an amazing tempeh Reuben, jasmine rice with Thai butternut curry. And for dessert: strawberry shortcake with maple whipped cream — all totally fresh. Fudge made with currants, almonds, coconut sugar and drizzled with a honey lavender sauce also is a strong contender for the perfect meal-ender. Come hungry, leave sated and feeling completely renewed. 70 Railroad St., Great Barrington, MA (413) 644-8999 Open 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. every day but Tuesday.
