Leslie Mendelson has been making thoughtful, piano-driven folk-pop for two decades, evoking 1970s singer-songwriters like Carole King while remaining firmly rooted in her modern life and sensibility. On Friday, April 10, she brings that sound to the Stissing Center's intimate Grace Note room in Pine Plains.
Jackson Browne has called her melodies "timeless," hearing traces of Burt Bacharach, while Jakob Dylan has called her voice "one with few if any peers." Those endorsements point to something real.
Her fourth studio album, "After the Party," was produced in collaboration with the legendary Peter Asher, known for his work with James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, and Bonnie Raitt, alongside Tyler Chester and her longtime songwriting partner Steve McEwan. The result is a record that is loose and lived-in but carefully made.
The Stissing Center, 2950 Church St, Pine Plains, NY. Tickets $25 at thestissingcenter.org
