Saturday, April 18 | Stockbridge, MA | $20, free with Card to Culture

Regie Gibson, Massachusetts's first Poet Laureate, sworn in by Governor Maura Healey last May, brings his performance piece, "Massachusetts: A Song of Itself " to the First Congregational Church of Stockbridge on April 18 at 3pm, backed by a live band.

The piece uses poetry, music, and storytelling to move through the history of the Commonwealth, giving voice to the range of people and struggles that shaped it. Gibson has described the production as using music and poetry to celebrate the state's endurance and growth through hardship, turmoil, and change.

Gibson is a spoken-word poet and assistant professor at Berklee College of Music. He has lectured and performed around the world, and has received both the Absolute Poetry Award and the Europa en Versi Award in Italy. The Stockbridge show is part of his broader effort to take the laureate role out of the library and into the community.

The event is presented by the West Stockbridge Historical Society. General admission is $20; Card to Culture cardholders get in free.

First Congregational Church, 4 Main St., Stockbridge, MA. Tickets at weststockbridgehistory.org.
