The Stissing Center hosts the Hudson Valley Puppet Slam on April 25, bringing together eight local puppeteers for an evening of short works in Banning Hall. The format is a slam: each artist gets a slot, the work is self-contained, and the range across a single evening tends to be pretty wide.

This year's roster reflects just how varied the regional puppetry scene has gotten. Carole D'Agostino headlines the evening. She is a UConn Puppet Arts graduate whose work has appeared on "Sesame Street," in several Broadway productions including "Avenue Q" and "Shrek the Musical," and on Coldplay's most recent world tour.

Other artists include Cabot Parsons, whose short review "Strange Things I've Shoved My Hand In" sold out Beacon's Howland Cultural Center in 2024, has also performed at Berlin Art Week and the National Puppet Slam.

William PK Carter, based in Central Valley, makes puppets at the intersection of queerness and blackness and recently completed residencies at Puppet Showplace and Ann Street Gallery; her in-development full-length piece just received a Workshop Grant from the Jim Henson Foundation. J Hann, a fiber artist from Upper Manhattan whose felted and crocheted work has also been supported by the Jim Henson Foundation.

Then there's Infinite Arms Production Company, which describes itself as some moms who went overboard with cardboard and glue guns in 2016.
