June 19, 8–11pm | Hudson, NY
Park Theater Hudson hosts a strong double bill on June 19: The Glass Hours and The Huntress and Holder of Hands, two acts touring together this summer with songwriting at the center.
The Glass Hours is the duo of Megan Barbera and Brad Armstrong, who combine Barbera's Colorado mountain roots with Armstrong's Birmingham, Alabama background into a sound that draws from both folk music cultures.
The Huntress and Holder of Hands is the project of MorganEve Swain, who built it in the aftermath of the 2014 death of her husband and musical partner Dave Lamb, with whom she had performed as Brown Bird. The new album, "Babylon," was released June 5—recorded at Providence's Machines With Magnets and Dirt Floor Studio with an expanded ensemble.
The second single, "Doctrine," is a protest song Swain wrote in 2017 that she'd hoped would become obsolete by now; instead, as she's put it, the words feel more like something the moment needs again. Swain has spoken candidly about grief as the engine of her songwriting in the years since Lamb's death, and "Babylon" carries that weight forward while sharpening its political edges.
