Friday, May 8 | Ghent, NY | 8:30–10:30am

The Hawthorne Valley Farmscape Ecology Program is leading a guided bird walk at Hawthorne Valley Farm on May 8, right in the middle of spring migration. The two-hour walk covers dirt roads and farm fields on the 900-acre biodynamic farm in Ghent, with a focus on species returning to breed or passing through the corridor.

Beginner birders are welcome. A few loaner pairs of binoculars will be available, though bringing your own is encouraged. Appropriate footwear for farm terrain is a good idea.

Hawthorne Valley's Farmscape Ecology Program is a small research and outreach outfit dedicated to the ecological and agricultural landscape of Columbia County, tracking what lives in and around working agricultural land over time. A May morning at a farm like Hawthorne Valley, with its mix of open fields, hedgerows, wetlands, and woodlots, is about as good a setup for spring birding as the region offers.

Space is limited. Register by emailing Laura Stark at lstark@hawthornevalley.org.
