Hollister House Garden opens its gates for free on Mother's Day, May 10, for an afternoon of garden strolling across the 27-acre property in Washington.

Mid-May at Hollister House is a seasonal exemplar of natural delights in northwest Connecticut. The double borders, kitchen garden, and series of hedged outdoor rooms that make up the property were developed over decades by founder George Schoellkopf, a folk art dealer who bought the land in the 1970s and set about building an English-inflected garden that stays true to the New England landscape around it.

As a bonus this weekend, the garden is offering farm-fresh bouquets of double tulips grown by Meadow Rue Gardens in Litchfield, available for purchase on site. A pressed flower card-making workshop is also running through the weekend

Regular visiting hours at Hollister House are Wednesdays and Fridays from 1 to 4 pm and Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm; Mother's Day is one of the few times the garden opens on a Sunday.
