Saturday, June 6, 6pm and 7:30pm | Hudson, NY | Very limited capacity
Hudson Hall's Handel on the Hudson opera series moves off the stage and onto the river on June 6, with two intimate performances aboard the Schooner Apollonia, a historic sailing vessel docked at the Henry Hudson Riverfront Park. Each sail runs 75 to 90 minutes and carries a very small audience.
Performing on both sails is soprano Meredith Wohlgemuth, a Juilliard graduate who is a member of the ensemble at Staatsoper Hannover, where she performs leading roles including Sophie in "Der Rosenkavalier" and Gretel in "Hänsel und Gretel." She received First Prize at the Internationaler Schubert LiedDuo-Wettbewerb and top honors at the Concours musical international de Montréal. She's also a cast member in Hudson Hall's upcoming 2027 production of Handel's "Deidamia," directed by R.B. Schlather, which makes these sunset sails a preview of what's coming. Joining her on keyboard is Elliot Figg, a core member of early music ensemble Ruckus, who has also worked as assistant conductor and harpsichordist at the Dallas Opera, Spoleto Festival USA, and LA Opera.

The Schooner Apollonia is a working sail cargo boat that has been hauling goods up and down the Hudson since its relaunch, part of a small movement to revive wind-powered commercial sailing on the river.
Due to very limited capacity, ticket purchases are limited to two per person. Two additional Handel Sets Sail performances are scheduled for July 11, with bass-baritone Douglas Ray Williams, and August 8, with soprano Fiona Gillespie.
Departs from Henry Hudson Riverfront Park, Hudson, NY. Tickets $60 at hudsonhall.org.
