Sarah Varney, a special correspondent for PBS NewsHour , joins Sravanthi Dev for a conversation about women’s reproductive rights in the United States after Roe v. Wade, drawing on her years of reporting. The Monterey Meeting House hosts the event.

Varney’s career spans two decades across radio, television, and print, and she has been the NewsHour’s special health care correspondent since 2014. She reported on the aftermath of the 2022 Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe in a series of stories for Kaiser Health News and the NewsHour, from abortion clinics in Illinois to the legal fights over abortion pills. She studied how newsrooms cover abortion as a 2024 Nieman Fellow at Harvard.

That year she founded Fountain Productions, which produces independent, fact-based reporting and analysis on the consequences of outlawing abortion. She is also working on a project called “The Aftermath,” which tracks people affected by abortion restrictions.
