Great Small Works, the company founded in 1995 by six veterans of Bread and Puppet Theater, presents a residency showcase of “The Myceliad,” a work in progress, at the Adams Theater on Sunday morning. The piece follows an artist crew pushed out to sea by the crises roiling the country. The company’s own description calls it a shadow puppet epic and a “homeopathic horror story,” in which problems from the real world arrive as parables.

The show uses hand-manipulated overhead projections, digital imagery, over-life-sized brown paper puppets, and an original sound score. Drawing on the survival strategies of fungi, the ensemble looks for ways to survive.

Great Small Works draws on folk, puppet, avant-garde, and popular traditions, performing in theaters, parks, street corners, and museums, from miniature living room shows to outdoor spectacles with dozens of volunteers. It has described its aim as keeping theater at the heart of public life.

General seating is $15 plus a $1.99 fee, or $16.99. Priority seating in the first four rows is $30.

Adams Theater, 27 Park Street, Adams, MA. Tickets at adamstheater.org.
