The Berkshire Scenic Railway runs a special Fourth of July fireworks excursion on July 4, departing Adams Station at 8:15pm and delivering passengers to an enclosed private viewing area in North Adams in time to watch the fireworks display before returning.
The railway is an all-volunteer nonprofit dedicated to the preservation of historic railroad equipment, and the cars—a Rail Diesel Car plus traditional passenger coaches—date to an earlier era of New England rail travel. The regular summer schedule connects the downtowns of Adams and North Adams along the same Hoosac Valley line that once linked the Berkshires to New York and Boston; the Fourth of July run is one of a handful of special event excursions the railway organizes each season.
Tickets run $20.14 for children (ages 3–12) and $27.56 for adults in coach; first class is $27.56 for children and $34.98 for adults. Parking is free at the Adams Visitor Center at 3 Hoosac Street, directly across from the Adams Station at 4 Hoosac Street. there are no restrooms onboard and the historic equipment cannot accommodate wheelchairs.
