The main house at 222-224 West Cornwall Road was built in 1948 and has 4 bedrooms and 3 baths across 2,209 square feet, with the primary suite on the first floor. The kitchen, dining, and living spaces share an open plan, and the kitchen has a large island. There is a wood-burning fireplace and a screened-in porch.

Two more buildings share the 40 acre property. A guest cottage dating to the 1940s has 3 bedrooms, a full bath, a kitchen, and a stone wood-burning fireplace. The listing says it has been preserved in its original condition, and suggests restoring it or keeping it as a rustic guest retreat. A barn has parking for 2 cars and room for storage, a workshop, or other projects.

West Cornwall Road has a longer history than any building on it. It was part of the Goshen and Sharon Turnpike, a private toll road chartered in 1803 that connected the centers of Sharon and Torrington by way of West Cornwall, Cornwall Hollow, and Goshen. Between Sharon and West Cornwall, the turnpike followed this road.

The Emily Winthrop Miles Wildlife Sanctuary is at 99 West Cornwall Road. The artist donated the 1,500 acres to the National Audubon Society in 1962. Together with the Housatonic State Forest, it forms a block of about 5,000 acres of unbroken forest, and Audubon notes it is a regular winter stop for bald eagles. The Sharon Audubon Center, at 325 Cornwall Bridge Road, has 11 miles of trails open from sunrise to sunset. The village of West Cornwall and its covered bridge over the Housatonic are nearby.

The property has been on the market since April, and the price has been reduced.

222-224 West Cornwall Road, Sharon (CT) is listed at $965,000, offered by John Panzer at Elyse Harney Real Estate.
